Poet Tekkan Yosano, who has ties to Yosano Town, announced this tanka poem in January 1935. It was included in the series titled “Kamakura Eiso.” It is about the joys of alpine hiking in winter.
With all the leaves fallen and only bare trees remaining, the Oeyama Mountains may look colorless compared to the fall foliage. But winter trees look beautiful because they have no leaves. By hiking with friends, you can have pleasant conversations, sing-alongs, meals, and enjoy the winter sunshine through the branches. These small discoveries make the Oeyama Mountains in winter very enjoyable and unique experience.
