The poem describes what Akiko Yosano saw while viewing fall colors. When she went to Mt. Akiyama, she saw a shrine maiden walking with an offering of Niishibori sake. This autumn’s new rice is used to make new sake. First we give thanks to the harvest and offer it to the gods. And together with the whole family, we say “Itadakimasu!” in appreciation before the meal.
Yosano’s golden fields of rice will soon be harvested for this year’s new rice.
